How to run it
King of the court (also called up and down the river) turns a rec night into a climb. Court 1 is the king court: its winners stay, its losers drop to court 2. On every other court the winners move up one and the losers move down one. When two pairs arrive on a court they split up, so partners change every game. If you have more players than court spots, CourtSheet sits players out in turn and the player coming back takes the spot of whoever sits next.
- Enter the players and the number of courts. Round 1 is drawn at random.
- Play round 1, then type every score. As soon as the last score is in, round 2 appears with everyone's new court.
- Repeat for as many rounds as you set. The standings track wins and point difference for everyone.
- Print the current grid at any time; later rounds show up once their results exist.
Tips
- A game cannot end tied in king of the court: someone has to move up. Play one more rally.
- Keep games short (to 7 or a 10-minute timer) so the courts finish together and the movement keeps flowing.
- Whoever is on court 1 at the end is king, but the standings table is the fairer final ranking.
